WikiProject Alternative music and sources

As part of the Alternative music WikiProject, we're gathering a list of sources on this page. Could you take a look and perhaps add any written references you have access to? Thanks! CloudNine 10:08, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations

You're now an admin after unanimous support – a rare feat indeed. Keep up the good work, spend some time on the admin reading list, and don't hesitate to ask questions if you're unsure. Have fun with the new tools, and again, congrats. - Taxman Talk 04:40, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Congrats! Like so many others, mine wasn't unanimous (it had a troll oppose and a neutral), so congrats! — Deckiller 04:46, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
COngratulations! I am sure you will make an more than excellent administrator. If there is anything I can do to help you or any question you may havem, please let me know. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 05:17, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Congrats! Rlevse 09:48, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Adding self to this here list of congrats! :) Bubba hotep 10:47, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Drat, I missed your RFA; I would've supported it, though from the looks of it you didn't need it. Good luck with the tools, feel free to let me know if you need any help or advice. :) --Coredesat 12:48, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Your RfA

Congratulations on your recent successful RfA. I would have supported, but was away from my PC.--Anthony.bradbury 20:48, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Falling in line with the other admins who have posted above, if I can help or advise you, please do not hesitate to send me a message. All friends here.--Anthony.bradbury 20:52, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

I have been an admin for only ten days, so I know exactly how you feel. How do I do this? How do I do that? and should i be doing whatever? Please feel free to ask me - we can probably work it out, or, if I don't know the answer, I know a man who does.--Anthony.bradbury 21:14, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
p.s. Getting the mop and bucket feels good, doesn't it? --Anthony.bradbury 21:16, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Backlog

Right. At this moment the CSD backlog is 169, which is scary. To be fair, it shrinks when the USA goes to sleep, but it is always about this level at this time. Get stuck in - we need you.--Anthony.bradbury 21:25, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Your RfA.

Congratulations on your very successful RfA: 50 supports; 100% support rate; not a single oppose or neutral! That's brilliant. Good luck on your new tools. :) Acalamari 18:37, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome; I was more than happy to support you. It was nice to see someone receive pile-on support. Acalamari 18:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Need some help on the Order 66 article

I need help on the Executive Order 66 article. On the top, it states that this article does not adequately cite its references and/or sources, the plot summary is a little bit long and it describes a work or element of fiction in a primarily in-universe style and may need cleanup. Do you have any ideas? If you would contact me, that would be greatly appreciated. I was considering a rewrite on that article. Sjones23 00:05, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

My school finishes up in June, following all of the final exams that I had to take. If you have time, can you assign something that you want me to do? That would be greatly appreciated. :D Regards Sjones23 00:11, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Request for your opinion

You recently blocked 131.193.9.108 for 3RR violations and vandalism. I reported 131.193.9.108 in both cases (the 3RR notice is still active, [1]). However, I suspect I may myself have violated WP:3RR in removing 131.193.9.108's edits. Could you please evaluate and comment? Thank you. Michaelbusch 23:17, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Why do you consider what the IP did vandalism? He is in violation of the 3RR rule, and if it isn't vandalism, so are you for edit waring, but since you have corrected yourself, I don't see why I would have to block you. But I would like to see your point of view on how it is vandalism. I blocked the IP for 24 hours for violation of the 3RR rule, and the block will stand; however, looking closely it may not be vandalism. The IP's contributions are not exactly POV from what I've read, it presents both sides of the issue, could you further explain? Darthgriz98 00:03, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Putting up POV material and insisting that it is complaint with WP:NPOV. I accept that the current version is better, but consider the next-to-last: "A large number of Murthy followers agreed that the Instumental version of the National Anthem was just the same as the vocal version and believed that Murthy was a person who deserved tremendous respect for what he did to improve India's economy." I lost my temper on account of the original edits (which were completely POV) and the incessant re-adding. Michaelbusch 03:10, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

In that case it does constitute as POV, but try not to lose your temper and try to work it out next time. Talking to the user helps. Darthgriz98 03:20, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Why am I not allowed to start a page??

I am trying to add a page about my cooking and it's been deleted. Question

Hey, it's me once again. I need help on the ROTJ article. On my talk page, Deckiller said that he will give a list of ideas once he read the article, but there is no response at this moment. Well, I also need some help from you as well on the ROTJ article. Is there anyway to help me with Deck on the ROTJ article? Thanks. I would appreciate it if you respond to this. :D Regards Sjones23 01:22, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Deleting the InfoExpress entry

The entry for InfoExpress was deleted before I could even finish writing the Talk page or edit the InfoExpress page. Although it was deleted, I request a chance to reinstate the page due to the company's historical importance within the NAC space. Please read the talk page for a historical account of the page and let me know why the company is not historically significant. If you're not familiar with the network access control space, please google "network access control" to see why this is significant.

I read that and I find it obsurd. How can a band get its name out more if you wont allow us to place our band on here in this free country. Why are you making this difficult? Its not a big deal. I say this in all due respect. --Perfectremedy 05:25, 5 May 2007 (UTC)perfectremedy

I suppose. I just didnt feel that it was a big deal to make a biography, if you will, of our band. It wasent harming anyone. Perhaps pay more attention to those runing your page with useless and arrogant comments. However, i respect that you "had" to delete our page and we will no longer try to make one. Sorry and thank you.

Hi, I have logged in to my wikipedia account and found a message from you regarding a page called "AlHisn". I would like to inform you that I have not written anything nor read this page before now. Hillary Clinton

I got your message about vandalism. Here's my question: I'm a technology trainer at a high school where a lot of teachers "fear" wikipedia. So, to show them the speed at which "vandalism" occurs, I put in the very slight "vandalism" of putting in the word "great" in Hillary Clinton's bio to show teachers how quickly bias is policed in wikipedia. It's the only way I can visibly demonstrate this. So, should I be more sly with my edits, or how can I safely demo the self-policing of Wikipedia.?

Star Wars prequels

Part of me simply wants him to break the 3RR again. I talked to a few admins that are familiar with the situation and asked them to keep an eye on the page. There must be something they can do, he is obviously not willing to rationally discuss the situation and he will not stop reverting the page. The only logical action that I can see at the moment is a block. The Filmaker 03:54, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

what to do...

Since we talked before, I'm going to ping you again. let me know if you're not the right person for it.

the wiki entry for "model release" has been recently modified to remove one of the "reference" links to my site's page on model releases, which has been recognized for years as the definitive source on the subject. It's been published in numberous articles and in two books, etc. Yesterday, someone (IP address only) removed it with the comment (in "talk") that it was a self-promotional piece that goes against wiki policy. However, I didn't actually include that link in the first place--someone else did. And the link this person replaced it with is to a lawyer's site that, in my professional opinion, is way off target in too many respects.

It appears to me that, since the entry was anonymous, that it was someone trying to plug their own site instead.

The reason I'm sending you a note is that I want to be able to contribute to wiki in a variety of ways on the business aspects of the photo industry, but if I'm going to spend a great deal of time dealing with shennanigans like this, I'd rather not bother.

What do yuou advise?

thanks, but...

Thanks for the feedback. while I appreciate your advice, what I don't want to get into is a constant back and forth tit for tat with whoever it is. Nor do I want to spend my time having to police entries... I realize there's not a whole one can do about this, since the system works because it's this open... users just have to be willing to put up with this, I guess.

I could back out his entry and re-insert the link (to my page) that was there, but is there a way, instead, to simple reverse the edit in the first place and not permit it to be altered?

I just wanted to let you know that I've deleted Template:Knights of the Old Republic because it's a basic duplicate of Template:Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic series (which is the one transcluded onto the pages). Just thought I'd let you know. -Royalguard11(Talk·Review Me!) 20:27, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

GS Wider Opportunities?

Hi! Rlevse directed me to ask you... Do you know what they are/were? And second, do you know what GSUSA renamed them? I can't think of more than that I thought it was a stupid name, and Wider Opportunity (and the plural) is, well, red. I can't seem to find a page for it, either, though I swear I found one a while ago. Does one exist and I'm missing it, or did it get deleted for some reason, or am I just losing my mind? -Bbik 02:31, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Ah yeah. Destinations. Because that's not going to be confused with every last other thing in the English-speaking world. (Pet peeve: All the names/levels/requirements keep changing, and people didn't know them in the first place, now they never will.) I've been on one, actually, so I know what they are... But I've come across SO many others, even those heavily involved in scouting, that have never heard of them. I was thinking I'd see if I could add anything to the page, but since there isn't one at all, maybe I'll create a stub or something, and assume the little section in GSUSA is what I was remembering. Any idea if they've changed more than the name? I've pretty much given up keeping track of it all.
What was your Gold Award project, if you don't mind my asking? I never did manage to do one, though I had everything else done. I'm regretting it now. Congrats to you! -Bbik 04:38, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
The frequent name changes in GSUSA is one reason their awards/programs don't have the name recognition that BSA things do. Example: Eagle Scout has had the same name since the first person earned it in 1912, but GSUSA's equivalent (now Gold Award) has had at least three different names.Rlevse 09:50, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
And that is exactly why I'm so annoyed with it all, too. And part of why I didn't come up with a new idea for a Gold project, too. I'd been thinking of collecting and recording (tapes, text, whatever) various Native American stories and history for the area, but couldn't find anyone even remotely local, which wasn't useful when mixed with transportation issues. And then Senior year happened, too, and threw all kinds of kinks in the way. Oh well.
Back to the whole name-changing thing, though... They should've just stuck with First Class, I've actually found people (not just those who've earned it) who knew/know what that is. Even if they didn't, the name's fairly obvious. And there's nothing old fashioned about sticking to "Wider Ops". Notice I couldn't remember the new name? :) And I'm not even going to get started on the whole "Ambassadors" level, or whatever the heck they've called the levels now that they completely resorted and renamed those with the creation of Studio2B (Which also seems silly... and expensive.). I heard about all the level mess, and basically declared I just don't care anymore, and want nothing to do with it. I got to go on a Wider Op, which was great, but beyond that, nothing about it can even be a decent topic of conversation, because I end up speaking a completely different language. -Bbik 01:29, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, my troop spent an entire meeting complaining about the changes. Not only were they driving away new members, but driving away the ones of us that wanted to be Girl Scouts. Studio 2B is an abomination to the Girl Scouts, if I were Juliette Low, I'd be turning over in my grave. It was so hard making that article POV free. I also refused to pay for anything Studio 2B, I got my award under a clause that said I didn't have to do any 2B crap.DarthGriz98 01:41, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Good to know I'm not the only one that feels that way. All I remember about it was when they were still "discussing" it. A little pamphlet thing was sent out and our troop looked at it, looked at paychecks and allowances, and wondered what part of the country they based their average on for affordability. Every individual part (A separate booklet for every last award? Are they out of their minds?) costs as much as a full book with everything used to cost! And seriously, charm bracelets? Those were cool when I was in elementary school, not past. Kudos for POV-free, though. I wouldn't have been able to do it. Hence the possibility of creating a Wider Ops stub slightly longer than the paragraph already written, but not more. Oh, and the fact that navigating the GS sites (main, or council) is positively painful, they've been going downhill with the rest of the program. -Bbik 02:01, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

User:Darthgriz98/Knights of the Old Republic

What is the story with User:Darthgriz98/Knights of the Old Republic? Something very strange happened here.... It's like half your talk page, half KOTOR article. But there's also a normal KOTOR article. You should get this deleted. --Swaaye 03:52, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism message

Hi,

We received this message:

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to talk:Star Wars, you will be blocked from editing. DarthGriz98 16:08, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

But I strongly doubt that anyone in this house attempted to vandalise a Star Wars Wikipedia page. Is the message a mistake?

Vandilism accusations

For one thing i did nothing of the sort i merly redirected the name of the planet of the rakatan homeworld article to its correct place before you accuse people of vandalism check you information thats a serious claim. danieljackson 04:36, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

The planet known as lehon otherwise known as rakata prime was the unknown homeworld of the rakata empire also known as the infinate empire i pulled it directly from wookiepedia and the sources are refrenced from starwars.com all of this information is also confirmed within the game if you play it thoughrally. the wookie page can be found here where i got all of my information on the article http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lehon danieljackson 04:46, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay give me a few minutes to find another source that will satisfy danieljackson 04:52, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

okay i found where they first coined the name lehon it was in a book released Star Wars: Darth Bane Path of Destruction A Novel of the Old Republic Written by Drew Karpyshyn

The novel illistrates the dark lord bane and how he traveled to the lost world where revan once visited it talks about the rakata and the temple of the ancients if you google it further i'm sure you can find the text for it but its pretty much covered all in the article about darth bane plus if you look at the article that directs you to rakata prime next to the name it says rakata prime or lehon hope this clears anything up danieljackson 05:02, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

yea i understand your reasoning behind the accusation i've had the same problem with alot of punks who cant back up there info so i dont blame you for doing what you did to be honest i probaly would have done the same thing if presented the situation peace and may the force be with you. sorry had to throw that in there :) danieljackson 05:10, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Return of the Jedi

Hey, Darthgriz98. I am sorry to see the stress you have. Would you like to help me on the Return of the Jedi article? This article needs a thorough copyediting, additional citations (especially in the production section) and expansion in the reaction section. Your comments regarding these comments with respect is very much appreciated. Thanks. Sjones23 12:58, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Alright, I guess I can fit enough time in to give it a look today. DarthGriz98 18:26, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Adoption Request

Darthgriz,

Hi, my name is Joshua.

I am new to the Wikipedia community and would like to try to contribute in some way. I'm not really sure where to begin though. If you would have me, I'd like to be adopted. I'll be awaiting your response!

Thanks Joshuas88 03:42, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

FF8 ending

http://forums.ffinsider.net/archive/index.php/t-2850.html

refers to what i'm talking abt. I added in this POV because the ending that was only mentioned in the wiki is ALSO a pov and readers deserve to know BOTH POVs.

The first post on this page clarifies what are the facts. The "happy" ending originally written in the wikki is thus 1 interpretation. I was adding in the less popular but equally possible interpretation.

thanks and regards Runehawk 00:25, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Dang, Darth, you're fast...I'd clicked the block button only to get the message that the user was already blocked! Keep up the great work! AKRadeckiSpeaketh 01:37, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Funny

Funniest vandal edit yet to that page [3]. :) Acalamari 01:41, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Indeed. The page was briefly not semi-protected a few weeks ago: barely lasted an hour before it was re-protected. Acalamari 01:44, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes: all we need to do is revert and move on (which means, I should be quiet :) ). Acalamari 01:48, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Final Fantasy vandalism

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but User:Headstrust is using various sockpuppets to vandalize the Wikipedia:WikiProject Final Fantasy page, as well as User:Deckiller's user page and his user talk page which have been assaulted for weeks, and according to Deckiller, "a sweeping IP block needs to occur to prevent the child from accessing grownup stuff." That is a notice to inform you. Your comments regarding this situation would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Greg Jones II 19:46, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Re:New Policy proposal

Um, did you just suggest on the village pump that we should be allowed to harass homosexuals or transsexuals? If not, sorry it just comes off that way in the way you made that comment. DarthGriz98 03:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I am against them (Christian POV, will never change), but I will never harass them.  Tcrow777  talk  03:58, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, I am against Christians (must be my post-The Way International POV, will never change); do you see me going around complaining about that? It's something you have to learn to deal with; everyone is against one or two groups of people, and it's how we deal with it that shows the true colors. — Deckiller 04:47, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Let me rephrase "I am against them", the the bible tells Chirstians their love their enemies, so I love them, but I just can't tolerate them. However, from now on I will let them be on Wikipedia  Tcrow777  talk  07:15, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia isn't run by a bible or religious head, so we don't put up with intolerance here, please keep it out of Wikipedia. We do have editors from all walks of life and this is a community, a divided community is no community at all. DarthGriz98 13:06, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Indeed; Wikipedia is not a place to flaunt your beliefs based on an ancient book. But I think I'll stop beating a dead horse. Tcrow, stop complaining and start improving some articles, please. — Deckiller 14:44, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
And I think I'll stop feeding the troll. — Deckiller 14:47, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
